The Ralphie Report writers share their favorites in the 2016 class.

After the whirlwind that was Signing Day, we here at Ralphie Report would like to reflect on the class and highlight some of the key signees. Who could make an immediate impact, who could turn into a real gem, and who do we just like to watch play football? Well, find out below.

Jack's Picks

Biggest Impact

Now, the easy and correct answer is Davis Webb, there's not too much debate. So I'm going to let someone else say that. I'm going to say that Drew Lewis will have a monster impact on this team, in the 2016 season and beyond. While Webb has one year to work his wonders, Lewis can get on the field for the Buffs for three years, and he should be penciled in as a starter for all three. He has a great frame, at 6'2 and 230, a ferocity that only fits a linebacker, and great instincts. Last year, CU started three different freshmen at inside linebacker. Not this year, especially with the wrecking ball named Drew Lewis coming in.

Sleeper Pick

I'm a huge fan of Derrion Rakestraw at WR. Multi-sport athlete, crazy long jumper, and 6'3 to boot. He has never focused on just playing football, meaning he has never really tried to pack on weight, and he snatches the ball out of the air. Just a two-star on Rivals, he's going to need a redshirt year (which is fine, given the other WR additions this class), but give him two years to put on weight, and he'll catch everything around him and get every jump ball. Sounds like a good deal to me.

Favorite Player

This was a tough one, as there are plenty of options here. I'm going to have to go with Johnny Huntley. As a football player, Huntley is athletic, strong, and big-bodied, capable of out-running and out-gunning the defensive backs. I know I sound like a commercial, but just wait until you see him in a CU uniform. You'll fall in love, too. More than that, he is a great ambassador for the program, sticking up for the Buffs on Twitter and welcoming all the new members of the Buff family. He will represent the pride and tradition of the Colorado Buffaloes well, on the field and off.

★ ★ ★

Cameron's Picks

Biggest Impact

I'm going to go with the obvious one here and say Davis Webb, at least for the 2016 season. Webb only has one year of eligibility, so over the course of a career it's likely one of the high school recruits will top what he provides. However, with Sefo Luifau out until at least fall camp, and most likely even longer, Webb has a fantastic chance to come in and win the starting job. Assuming he stays upright, it's likely that he will have the biggest effect on where this team goes in 2016.

Sleeper Pick

Keep your eye on Terriek Roberts. The Denver South product is 6'6 and 255 and played on both sides of the ball for the Rebels. With a year or two to fill out that frame, Roberts will be a force whether he ends up on the offensive line or at defensive end.

Favorite Player

This is a tough one, but I have to go with Anthony Julmisse. The Florida product is smaller than some of the other players brought in in this class, but is fantastic at making defenders miss and still has the ability to run through a tackle. He excelled on kickoff and punt returns in high school, and he should be able to make an impact on special teams right away for the Buffaloes. Julmisse will most likely end up on the offensive side of the ball for Colorado and may step in at slot receiver. Regardless of where he plays, he finds a way to impact the game.

★ ★ ★

Patrick's Picks

Biggest Impact

Since Jack and Cam beat me to the punch, I'll go with the next most obvious option. Juwann Winfree is going to start opposite Shay Fields and he's going to force opposing secondaries to make a very hard decision. Key on Winfree and you're vulnerable to be beaten deep by the speedy Fields, help over the top on Shay and it's a good bet Juwann will have slipped the coverage and found his way to open grass underneath. The Buffs' late steal is polished and experienced, and has all the tools to become a big time collegiate receiver. If the Buffs are more successful offensively in 2016, it's likely that Winfree will have played a starring role.

Sleeper Pick

I'm not sure how much of a sleeper he still is after all of the affection he received from the CU Internet on Signing Day but Trey Udoffia has a great shot at making a significant impact on the Colorado secondary during his time in Boulder. Originally scouted as an offensive talent, Udoffia switched over to defense and found himself to be adept at locking down receivers. The kid is an athlete and the bet here is that he'll retain those soft hands and sharp ball skills to help contribute in the return game as well. I wouldn't be surprised to see him play a large role in Leavitt's plans as early as next season, and he could very well see the field this fall.

Favorite Player

Since we've already spoken about Julmisse (who is truthfully my favorite player in this class) I'll go with Pookie Maka, the defensive terror out of Utah. Aside from immediately joining the All-Name pantheon at CU, Pookie could make an impact early in his Colorado career. Watching his tape, I got the feeling that he could become the Buffaloes' version of Von Miller. He's quick off the snap, tenacious, and finds his way home with ferocity. Given time to develop under Jim Leavitt, whom he very clearly loves, Maka could emerge as the consistent pass-rushing force at the outside linebacker position that Colorado's defense has been sorely missing since joining the Pac-12. If Leavitt's track record is any indication, Pookie could become a star in a short amount of time.

The incoming class for Coach MacIntyre looks promising for the future in Boulder beyond '16

College football's national holiday known as Signing Day didn't disappoint this year for the Colorado Buffaloes. Eighteen recruits from eleven different states make up the 2016 class, including a last-minute surprise from Beau Bisharat. A product of Jesuit High School (Carmichael, CA), Bisharat signed his letter of intent after decommiting from Stanford. Last year's class was touted as the best of Coach Mike MacIntyre's tenure and expectations are high for this years' recruits. Bisharat leads the 2016 class and MacIntyre hinted about him playing extensively right away.

"He an exciting player that we're really excited about," MacIntyre said about Bisharat. "In an interesting recruiting battle I will say it went all the way to late last night on the phone. He wanted to be a Buff and we're excited about him being a Buff."

Bisharat was highly sought after by 24 schools nationally including every program in the Pac-12. The 6-foot-2, 210 pound athlete made the decision to become a Buff after being sold on Boulder.

"I was somewhat worn out on visiting places and I felt comfortable about making it official at Colorado. I also wanted to stay in the Pac-12 conference," Bisharat said about becoming a Buff.

He's regarded as the most durable fullback in the nation with a SPARQ rating of 98.37; testing overall agility, speed, and physical ability. Bisharat joins a stout backfield alongside Michael Adkins II, Phillip Lindsey and Patrick Carr.

The highlight of this class could feature a trio of wide receivers including Kabion Ento from East Central Community College (Pine Bluff, AR), Juwann Winfree from Coffeyville Community College (Englewood, NJ) and Johnny Huntley from South Plantation HS (Plantation, FL). Ento stands 6-foot-3, 175 pounds and plays more of a possession type of role. He will be relied on in short yardage situations or have the potential for the slot.

"I felt that Colorado runs some of the things I ran in Junior College," Ento said about deciding on CU. "I plan on trying to gain some weight but i'm excited to play anywhere coach wants me to."

Expect him to bulk up closer to 200 pounds coming into camp and become more of a physical receiver under newly hired wide receiver coach Darrin Chiaverini.

After originally being enrolled to the University of Maryland for his freshman year, Winfree ended up at Coffeyville for a brief stop. His highlight tape displays speed and dominance against defenders as a premier receiving threat. A 6-foot-3, 205 pound frame gives him play making ability.

"It wasn't an easy decision, but I wanted to do what was best for me and go somewhere I wanted to go," Winfree said about decommiting from Pittsburgh in favor of CU. "I have a great future at CU and i'm excited."

MacIntyre has already nicknamed Winfree "The Touchdown Maker" and for good reason after seven scores last season at Coffeyville.

Huntley plays very physical at 6-foot-3 and 205 pounds, drawing comparisons to Winfree. Both plan on having an immediate impact for the Buffs. Huntley is planning on redshirting this season but is already learning the offense and will be ready to play.

"When I first went to Boulder, it felt like home," Huntley said. "I've talked to Coach Leavitt a couple of times and he's inspirational."

The addition of the trio will boost the Buffs young receiving corps of Shay Fields, Devin Ross, Donovan Lee, and Bryce Bobo. The bigger question for the CU offense in 2016 is will be who the starting quarterback next season?

Sefo Liufau is out an undetermined amount of time and MacIntyre reiterated how serious the senior quarterback's injury is.

"He has his broken lisfranc. That is a serious, serious, serious injury. My job is to get the best quarterback ready to play when we open up against CSU."

A strong possibility could be Davis Webb, a graduate transfer quarterback from Texas Tech who has great size. At 6-foot-5 and 225 pounds, he led the Red Raiders with 5,557 passing yards, 46 touchdowns and 22 interceptions in 23 career games.

"I'm excited at what Davis Webb brings to the table, I think he's a quarterback that could definitely lead our team and be a starter," MacIntyre said. "With our situation and the way we have it right now, I'm glad Davis Webb is coming in and we'll see how everything goes with Sefo's foot."

Webb's pro-style approach to the position give CU options, especially bolstering this recruiting class with capable junior college recruits as targets.

On the opposite side of the ball CU didn't gain any specific defensive lineman, but it's likely hometown favorite Terriek Roberts will play either side on the line. At 6-foot-6 and 255 pounds, the Denver South HS (Denver, CO) "big man" has always wanted to be a Buff. Coach Mac has been following Roberts' progression since his freshman year at South.

"He's going to be an excellent left tackle that will make the quarterback feel very comfortable," Coach Mac noted. "He needs to put on more weight and he's doing that and a year from now he'll be a 290 to 300 pounder." It's very likely Roberts will be redshirted. He also desires to play tight end at some point while at CU. The notion is something MacIntyre isn't entertaining.

Overall, Colorado's 2016 class is rounded out with eleven offensive players and seven on defense including DB Ca'Ron Baham from John Ehret HS (Marrero, LA), DB Ronnie Blackmon from Westlake HS (Atlanta, GA), LB Akil Jones from Valley Christian HS (San Jose, CA), WR Anthony Julmisse from South Plantation (Plantation,FL), LB Drew Lewis from Coffeyville Community College (Sammamish, WA), OT Chance Lytle from Churchill HS (San Antonio, TX), OLB Pookie Maka from Cottonwood HS (Salt Lake City, UT), QB Sam Noyer from Beaverton HS (Beaverton, OR), OL Colby Pursell from Hart HS (Valencia, CA), WR Derrion Rakestraw from Sequoyah HS (Woodstock, GA), DB Trey Udoffia from Del Oro HS (Loomis, CA) and OL Hunter Vaughn from Legend HS (Parker, CO).

It's probably the offseason Kool-Aid, but boy things sure feel different around CU Football.

I'm gonna be honest- I LOVE recruiting. It's like a soap opera with less violence, more cheating, and better actors. The drama never ends, the Twitter stalking feels like detective work, and best of all, it revolves around the next set of Buffaloes. However, the past few years have been calm, relaxing even. Coach Mac and Co. usually found their guys around August, kept most of them until February, and then they signed. Obviously there are exceptions, but the gist of the class was calm and under-recruited. And while I loved following the players and coaches, the news wasn't flying around like some of the other Pac-12 teams.

That all changed this year. Joe Tumpkin, Jim Leavitt, and Darrin Chiaverini (as well as the other assistant coaches) seemed to completely reinvigorate recruiting. Suddenly recruits were talking about the Buffs! Nationally, people began to take notice. CU was on some big time recruits, and I followed with absolute joy. Every day I was digging on Twitter, trying to find the next offer, the next prospect, the next commit. This last month, things got really exciting. It was a bit of a roller coaster (landing Davis Webb, but losing Sheriron Jones is a great example), but that's why recruiting is exciting. It's impossible to predict what's going to happen accurately, and no one predicted the jump that the Buffs had in the last month. Since the end of December, CU added a new starting QB, WR, LB, and RB, while holding onto their most prized high school commits, fending off other Pac-12 teams and even Emperor Saban himself.

This class is built to contribute immediately. Juwann Winfree will step in to a starting wideout slot. Beau Bisharat will immediately become an option in the backfield, and should work as an H-back, too. Johnny Huntley and Anthony Julmisse are athletic enough to help immediately. On the defensive side of the ball, Trey Udoffia has all the skills to cover Pac-12 players right away, and Drew Lewis should be a plug-and-play at inside linebacker. Even Akil Jones and Pookie Maka, while slight of build, are huge steps up athletically. There are some players that will redshirt or grayshirt (mainly the linemen), and there are some that will mainly contribute as upperclassmen. But for the most part, the players brought in represent an immediate upgrade to the roster and will receive playing time as such. All of the new recruits mentioned the facilities as a big plus, and many talked about the relationships with the coaches. Suddenly, a bowl game doesn't seem like a possibility anymore. It seems like a probability.

I tweeted that during the middle of the morning's crazy proceedings, and I stick with the sentiment. I don't know, there's just a buzz around the program, and it's not just manufactured. It feels like a big time program again. The Buffs beat big time schools for big time players today. The Buffs have some of the best facilities in the country. The Buffs have an AD committed to winning and coaches committed to bringing in the best players possible to make that happen. it seems everyone in the Champions Center is on the same page: to bring the Buffs back.

The Buffs' newest QB should get Buff Nation pumped.

Y'know, back when Davis Webb announced his intention to transfer out of Texas Tech, CU was just coming off a bad basketball loss and I was feeling extra snarky, so I posted these tweets.

At the time, it seemed silly to expect that Davis Webb would come to Boulder. He had has pick of the litter for P5 teams that just lost a quarterback. The Auburn speculation was the loudest, but A&M and even Alabama were being thrown around. Why would he consider little old CU? Because a WR coach from the school he just transferred out of came to Boulder and he wanted to start? Well, as it turns out, yes. Coach Chev had a bigger pull than any of us anticipated, and Webb saw that a team on the rise with an injured starter might give him just the opportunity he needed. All of us fans had read how great of a teammate he is, but would we ever get to see that? Even if he did come here, wouldn't he just treat it as a one-year draft prep? Then this happened.

A week before signing day, Davis Webb committed to the Buffs! Yay! A bonafide experienced starter in the Air Raid who was highly recruited out of high school! He has a rocket arm! But Webb gets even better. He told Rivals that he committed so early (he didn't have to sign until May) in order to help the Buffs gain some momentum to finish the class.
// -->
As a one year transfer, he was helping recruit for his team. That's when I realized that CU stumbled on something special. Even if we just had him for a year, and he was just in Boulder for that long, Webb was already trying to make the Buffs as good as possible for that year. He displayed leadership, passion, and excitement to be part of the Buffs. He has the stats, he has the talent, AND he has the attitude? No wonder Kliff Kingsbury said that he would be a draft pick. The signing day surprises may steal some thunder away from Webb and the other commits, but Webb helped bring them here and he'll help them succeed while they're here. He said in this interview with Buffzone that he wants his new teammates to experience a bowl game and he believes he can make that happen. Well, I believe so, too. CU is ready to get back to relevance, and Webb is ready to help take us there.

The relentless linebacker is officially a Buff!

Akil Jones, an inside linebacker recruit out of California, has officially joined the Buffs. Jones, from the same school as Ryan Severson and Jay MacIntyre, is a relentless pursuer of the football and a natural pass-rusher. While a bit undersized, at middle linebacker (sam, to be exact), he's more than big enough to make plays, especially with his speed and leverage. Jones has more than enough athleticism to succeed in the PAC-12, and may redshirt this year, though with the Buffs' depth chart at ILB, he could find his way on the field soon.

The rangy linebacker from Utah joins the Buffs!

Pookie Maka joins the Buffs from their neighboring state of Utah (suck it, rivals!) Jim Leavitt's favorite recruit this cycle got a lot of attention from the coach, and all of that 'crootin paid off in the end. Maka has great playmaking ability at linbebacke, with fluid motion and a motor that just doesn't quit. He has the frame to really bulk up, and the speed to make things happen behind the line. He plays downhill and with passion. Maka might redshirt with CU, which would be the best thing academically and to help him put on weight, but he has the talent to help immediately. He also is an immediate entry into the all-name Buff team.

"He just has the stuff that you can't coach and Coach Leavitt sees the potential in being able to coach him up and sees him being able to make a huge impact. Pookie could really benefit from the structure of college where he is fed every day and is on a nutrition plan and is in a good weight lifting program. The guy is just going to balloon while keeping his speed"

The huge guard from California is officially a Buff!

The Buffs offered way back in August, but Colby Pursell waited until his official visit in January to commit to CU. The 6'2, 275 guard/tackle from California has been under-recruited, but CU loved what they saw and why wouldn't they? He's a big body who has some good foot speed and fits really well as a pass-blocking guard. He may be a grayshirt candidate, joining Hunter Vaughn as two offensive line recruits to go that route. Pursell moves well into the second level and he hold his own against some of the bigger defensive tackles in his film.
