After an illustrious 5-7 record as a head coach, Mel Tucker has agreed in principle to be Michigan State’s head coach:
BREAKING: #CU coach Mel Tucker has agreed in principle to become the new head coach at #MichiganState, per sources. After Tucker turned down initial interest, MSU power brokers came back repeatedly to Tucker’s reps w/ an offer that was impossible to ignore https://t.co/qjOH0qKirQ

If you can’t read that article due to a pay wall, here’s the painful part:
People with knowledge of Tucker’s deal with the Spartans said it doubles his Colorado coaching salary pool (which was $3.15 million in 2019), includes a substantial increase to the Michigan State strength and conditioning staff budget and program resources and will more than double Tucker’s Colorado salary, which is around $2.7 million.
sigh
sigh
I can’t get mad at a man who gets that sweet of a deal. Any one of us would take a doubling of a salary, plus everything else that makes his life easier.
But this sucks. Like a lot. Any momentum for the program is gone. Any illusions of grandeur should be wiped clean. CU just took by a “peer” school who has arguably a worse tradition and worse facilities. Look, it’s late, and looking in a program-sized mirror is folly right now. Because you’re not gonna like what you see.
TIME TO FIRE UP A HOT BOARD.
