Mel Tucker was announced as the next head coach of the Colorado Buffaloes on Wednesday. Thankfully for CU, he is staying in Boulder for the duration. Unlike some other head coaching situations, Tucker is giving himself fully to CU. The former Georgia defensive coordinator will not join the Bulldogs for the Sugar Bowl against Texas.
Tucker has to hit the ground running for recruiting. The Early Signing Day is in exactly two weeks, meaning that Mel and the new/old staff have a fortnight to keep the old commits and charge hard for new ones. This task would have been even harder if Coach Tucker had to split his time between his old team and his new one, so the decision to leave Georgia is welcome. The Bulldogs will likely be just fine, as HC Kirby Smart is one of the best defensive play callers in the business.
