Some fun news came out of the Champion’s Center on Tuesday. The Buffaloes have scheduled the Northwestern Wildcats for a home-and-home series. Here is the full release from CU.
As they point out, the main link between the two schools is Gary Barnett, who was a coaching legend in Chicago and Boulder. Northwestern is also a similar institution in terms of current football stature. Plus, Pat Fitzgerald is fun as hell. CU will play at Northwestern at 2026 and they will come to Folsom Field in 2027. I can’t even think past 2017, so this series may as well be in 3027. Either way, it’s a fun series and underscores a fun trend in the games that the Buffs have been scheduling under Rick George.
Since cancelling the annual game with CSU in Denver, CU has been killing it on the scheduling trail. Once the contract for the Rocky Mountain Showdown ends in 2020, the Buffs will play Texas A&M, Minnesota, and Nebraska all in the next two years. From 2023 on, they play TCU, Georgia Tech, Northwestern, and Kansas State. All of these are fun non-conference games that should only increase CU’s strength of schedule. Good stuff.
