Junior running back Christian Powell has been named to the Doak Walker Award watch list, which was released this morning. Powell joins kicker Will Oliver as the only Buffaloes featured on the preseason lists so far this summer. The Doak Walker Award is given annually to the best running back in the nation, and was awarded to Boston College's Andre Williams last season.

Powell enters the fall listed atop the depth chart at tailback; he also will shift over and lineup at fullback, where he can so considered the best player on the team at the position. He is 36th on CU's all-time rushing list with 1,253 yards and finished his sophomore season with 562 yards and three touchdowns. Powell will likely share the position with Michael Adkins and Tony Jones for the majority of the carries. The Colorado running game struggled last season, finishing 108th in the country. The Buffs had 218 yards against Charleston Southern and 154 in a blowout loss to Oregon State but finished this season with four games under 100 yards.
