Colorado Tops USC 75-63 In Pac-12 Tournament

Buffs win comfortably, advance to play Oregon State

Ron Chenoy-USA TODAY Sports

Colorado seized the opportunity to start their season anew in the Pac-12 Conference with a 75-63 victory over USC.

USC beat Colorado twice in the regular season, but CU was able to exact revenge as they took an early lead and never looked like relinquishing it.

Colorado's point guards Lexy Kresl and Brecca Thomas handled the Trojans pressure well, and they were able distribute the ball to their scorers.  Four Buffs, including Kresl who scored 12 points, finished in double digits.

Haley Smith (16 points) and Jamee Swan (15) led CU in the scoring department.  Lauren Huggins added 11 points off the bench.

Colorado pulled away from USC through a combination of hot shooting and staunch defense. CU shot the ball at a 53% clip, and they held USC to only 29% from the field.  Most importantly the Buffs completely shut off the Trojans' star and leading scorer Alexys Vaioletama as she shot 0-13 from the field.

The win sees Colorado advance to play the Pac-12 regular season title holders, Oregon State, tomorrow at 7 P.M.  Colorado lost to the Beavers in their only meeting 66-44.
