Western Kentucky Tops Colorado 79-78 In WNIT

Colorado could not overcome 24 turnovers

In a scrappy game in which three Buffs fouled out, the Western Kentucky Lady Tops beat Colorado 79-78 in overtime of the WNIT quarterfinals.

A career-high 24 points and 11 rebounds from Jen Reese powered Colorado, and they almost reclaimed the lead in overtime off some key plays from Reese.  With less than two minutes left in overtime, she nailed a three-pointer and on the next play converted a three point play.

Colorado had a chance to take the lead after causing a Western Kentucky turnover with 19.5 seconds left in overtime, but Lexy Kresl failed to convert on a drive and Western Kentucky gained possession with less than one second remaining.

Ball security hurt the Buffs as they finished the game with 24 turnovers.

"We get flustered easily right now, and that's just controlling the tempo. We were easily taken out of our offense... so I just need to control the tempo better," said Kresl who finished with 20 points and 4 3-pointers.

Chastity Gooch led the way for the Lady Tops with 30 points.  Micah Jones also added 20 points to the winning side.

"(There's) definitely things to build on, they showed us some weaknesses," said Coach Linda Lappe.

Colorado will next face Arkansas State on Saturday, Nov. 25 in a consolation game to end their WNIT tournament.
