Colorado women's basketball opened their regular season with a solid 68-59 win over a strong North Dakota team in the WNIT.
Forwards Jen Reese and Jamee Swan led the way for the Buffs with 21 and 16 points, respectively. Lauren Huggins also added 11 points and three crucial three-pointers.
North Dakota proved to be a tough test for CU and was within striking distance only down 63-59 with 2:10 left in the game. However, solid defense and a 3-point play from Reese sealed the game for the Buffaloes.
"You can't always script the last few minutes. I liked how we attacked the last two to three minutes, and I thought a lot of players came up with big plays," said Coach Linda Lappe.
North Dakota's Emily Evers provided problems for the Buffs throughout the game. She finished with 21 points and 18 rebounds.
"It (playing Evers) was a real good test for us before getting into Pac-12 play and non-conference play," said Swan.
The Buffs will be back in action on Monday hosting Western Kentucky in the quarterfinals of the WNIT.
"We're excited to keep playing and continuing to have a chance at a WNIT championship," said Lappe.
