Arizona linebacker commits to Colorado Buffaloes

The Buffs continue to pillage The Copper State

NCAA Football: Northern Colorado at Colorado Ron Chenoy-USA TODAY Sports

Arizona has a surprising amount of talent for its size, and luckily for every other program in the Pac-12, the hometown Arizona Wildcats and Arizona State Sun Devils cannot keep that talent home. Last year, the Colorado Buffaloes came into the Copper State and plucked Brendan Rice and Jason Harris out of the Phoenix area. Those are two key recruits and valuable contributors. This year, the first player from Arizona that commits to the Buffalo 2021 class is Zion Magalei.

Magalei is a quiet recruit, not preferring to do a lot of interviews. He plays at Chandler High School in Chandler, Arizona, which is an absolute powerhouse program in the Western part of the United States. That means he had no shortage of eyes on him in this recruiting cycle. Zion is a 6’3, 220 OLB who chose the Buffs over offers from the service academies, Arizona, Kansas State, and a few other programs.

Zion plays with his hair on fire, and he has a lot hair to light up. He looks very skinny for his height, which means that he should fill out very nicely. Magalei makes a beeline for the ball every single play, and he usually gets there before anyone else does. As an edge player on defense, he is a pass rusher first, but given time, he should hold up against the run as well.

Welcome, Zion!
