Colorado Buffaloes add to great recruiting start with JUCO corner commitment

A familiar face from a familiar program joins the 2020 class.

When Alton Julian was a defensive back coming out of Valley Christian High School, he was a skinny corner with tons of potential. If that sounds like a classic Mike MacIntyre defensive back to you, it should be no surprise that he came out and visited CU during his high school years. He didn’t end up getting the offers he wanted, so Julian enrolled at College of San Mateo, also in California. Now, with some extra weight and skill, he is a national recruit, but his end destination is familiar. Julian is a Buff.

Like many late bloomers, Julian grew up at the junior college level. Former (and now current) teammates with Buffaloes CB Mekhi Blackmon, Julian added a bunch of weight to his 6’3 frame and became a much bulkier 190 pounds. His physical explosion coincided with his recruiting, and Julian gained offers from Colorado, Oregon State, San Diego State, Boise State, Fresno State, and Texas A&M. Julian recently visited A&M, but he saw enough of College Station to make his pledge to Boulder.

Alton may look like a Coach Mac recruit, but he plays much more like a Mel Tucker defensive back. He sits and watches the quarterback, rather than crowding the line of scrimmage (though he is long enough to do both), and when he reads the pass, he explodes. A willing tackler in space, Julian should be a plus in the run game as well. He is a junior college recruit with three years to play two.

Welcome, Alton!
