National Signing Day 2019: Jamar Montgomery Signs with the Buffs

The rangy LB makes it official

Jason Brown, the head coach at Independence Community College and star of Last Chance U, is fond of saying he has at least two Cadillacs. Well, I would say he has more than that, because Jamar Montgomery is a Caddy driving to Boulder.

Here’s what we said about Jamar Montgomery when he committed in late January:

Montgomery is a late find for Tucker that appears to have his recruiting dampened by the need for an extra semester at ICC. The LB, who will surely make an appearance on the next season of Last Chance U, has played everywhere in the front seven before settling at OLB. His tape shows a solid player all-around. He uses his hands, fills his gaps, and sticks to his assignments. Montgomery has easy athleticism and is a fluid athlete in space. Going off of Mel Tucker’s previous stops at Georgia and Alabama, Montgomery is a flexible piece that Tucker can stick on the edge to watch for read option plays and also cover tight ends. Regardless, it’s clear that the front seven will be physically different in 2019

The linebacker has three to play two and will arrive in Boulder in May. He should play spot minutes right away on special teams, and will have to compete in a crowded OLB spot for playing time.

Welcome, Jamar!
