The safety position for the Colorado Buffaloes has been a little precarious in recent years. A mixture of grad transfers (thanks for everything, Mikial Onu) and junior college transfers have plugged the gaps, but going into next year, the last man standing is converted wide receiver Derrion Rakestraw. Reinforcements are en route for Mel Tucker, mostly by way of Christian Gonzalez.
Christian plays safety and wide receiver for the The Colony High School in Texas, just outside of Dallas. Gonzalez had a few connections to Purdue, and was committed there before the allure of Mel Tucker and Colorado Football proved too strong. As we wrote when he committed, Gonzalez had offers from everybody in college football. At 6’1 and 193 pounds, he has the size to excel at DB.
He also has the skill;. I love watching Gonzalez play football. Everything is so completely natural for him. Turn on the tape, and you see player that looks like he isn’t even trying when he humiliates the opponent. His body control is unreal, and everything is so smooth. He will play immediately for CU, and he will be a plus player. I am a big fan.
