Anyone who is taking the step up from a two-year university to a four year university deserves a lot of praise for doing the hard work and bettering themselves academically. Especially if they can do it for free. The same props go to someone who takes a similar step up from Nebraska to a two year university. Guy Thomas did both, and for that, he deserves double props.
Guy Thomas is not a typical junior college come-up story. As we mentioned in his commitment article, he had plenty of talent coming out of high school and was a four star when, like a lot of 18 year olds, he made a brash decision and signed with Nebraska. Now, after starring at Coahoma for two years, he heads to Colorado with two years to play two.
At 6’3 and 232 pounds, Thomas is a prototypical pass-rushing OLB who played with his hand in the ground at times. At this level, he will most likely transition to a full time OLB role and focus on rushing the passer and occasionally covering a tight end. He is very good at the former already. His tape shows explosion off the snap and plenty of bend around the edge. He can rush from the inside or outside and he can get up to full speed in a hurry.
Thomas will step in and immediately compete for playing time in this front 7.
