Colorado Buffaloes add athletic RB to 2019 class

Another elite offensive weapon joins the Buffs

NCAA Football: Northern Colorado at Colorado Ron Chenoy-USA TODAY Sports

For the most part, the Colorado Buffaloes have stuck to their traditional recruiting grounds for the 2019 recruiting class. The only player that doesn’t hail from Colorado, California, or Texas is Valentin Senn, who is from Austria. CU is sticking to their script. Until now.

Jaren Mangham is worth branching out for. The RB/ATH, from football powerhouse Cass Tech in Michigan, is a big-time recruit with big-time pedigree. Even with a junior year season hampered by an ankle injury, Mangham turned into a national recruit at RB with offers from everyone. Take a look at just his top 8 schools:

His list spans four out of five Power 5 conference (sorry, ACC) and a lot of well-known RB factories. This is great company for CU to be in (and you know what, they should be happy that they’re mentioned with the Buffs too). But the relationship with Darian Hagan and the allure of Boulder eventually won out in the end.

His junior highlight reel shows a lot, despite the injury. Mangham is a big back at over 6 feet and 210 pounds. He uses his size well, consistently bowling over DBs and LBs. But he’s not just a bull in a china shop. Jaren is a decisive back who cuts upfield in a hurry. He goes north and south, and while he doesn’t have the explosive breakaway speed of other backs, he has more than enough shimmy and shake to break off big runs. Any time you can get a big, powerful back who makes quick moves, you take him.

Welcome, Jaren!
