Following months of regional camps and competitions around the nation, the 2018 Elite 11 quarterback finalists were named on Monday. Colorado Buffaloes commit Ty Evans was among twenty-four quarterbacks invited to compete in yesterday’s finals held at Union High School in Southern California, making the cut for the Class of 2019’s list of the top twelve passers.
The 6’2”, 185-pound pro-style prospect from Palmer Ridge High School (Monument, Colo.) is regarded as the top overall player in the state of Colorado after throwing for 3,627 yards and 42 touchdowns as a junior last season. Evans decided to commit to CU in early January and since then has received offers from other “Power 5” schools including Michigan, Arizona State, Ole Miss and defending national champions Alabama.
Oklahoma commit Spencer Rattler from Pinnacle H.S. (Phoenix, Ariz.) tops the list of Elite 11 quarterbacks, joined by South Carolina’s Ryan Hilinski from Lutheran H.S. (Orange, Calif), and Auburn’s Bo Nix from Pinson Valley H.S. (Pinson, Ala).
The remaining of the eight to advance were TCU’s Max Duggan from Lewis Central H.S. (Council Bluffs, Iowa); Michigan’s Cade McNamara from Damonte Ranch H.S. (Reno, Nev.); Washington’s Dylan Morris from Graham-Kapowsin H.S. (Graham, Wash.); Alabama’s Taulia Tagovailoa from Thompson H.S. (Alabaster, Ala.); Florida State’s Sam Howell from Sun Valley H.S. (Monroe N.C.); Wisconsin’s Graham Mertz from Blue Valley North H.S. (Mission, Kan.); along with Brian Maurer from West Port H.S. (Ocala, Fla.) and Jayden Daniels from Cajon H.S. (San Bernardino, Calif.) who are the only two uncommitted quarterbacks in the group.
The players who made the Elite 11 receive an invitation to Nike Football’s The Opening Finals, one of the most high-profile events in college football recruiting which takes place for five days in Dallas, TX starting on June 29.
Evans becomes the second recruit from CU’s 2019 football class to make The Opening’s final roster, joining Mater Dei’s (Santa Ana, Calif.) Braedin Huffman-Dixon, who was announced among the wide receivers in March.
