Modesto Junior College should feature into the Colorado Buffaloes’ future plans. The Buffs have a very solid connection as long as Daniel Da Prato remains with CU. He knows the head coach on a very personal level, so he often gets news and looks at players at MJC before most coaches. This led to one of the best under-the-radar gems of the Mike MacIntyre era in Mustafa Johnson.
According to head coach Rusty Stivers, Vaatofu Sauvao held his own against Johnson in practice. Almost no one in the Pac-12 could block Johnson consistently, so that alone should warrant a take. Throw in the fact that Sauvao comes in ready made and over 300 pounds as a guard, and the decision to recruit Vaatofu is easy.
Sauvao stands at 6-2 and 315 (!!!) pounds. He has two to play two, as he used his redshirt year this year to shore up academics, which scared off a lot of bigger teams. But make no mistake, Sauvao can play. The man just likes to put people in the dirt. He’s nasty, moves well, and has flexibility. Sauvao, for being so big, is surprisingly agile. As a guard, he is a puller that makes linebackers scared to try to step up.
