Austin Johnson continues the in-state charge.

PACK IT UP BOYS, THE BEST NICKNAME OF THE 2019 COLORADO FOOTBALL TEAM IS ALREADY HERE. There have been plenty of contenders, but with Austin Johnson now joining the commit list, there is no need for other contenders. That’s right, BIG SALSA IS ON BOARD.

Big Salsa, or Austin Johnson to us plebians, is a big commitment. Playing at Highlands Ranch High School, he will be the 2nd player in two years to come out of that area, joining Ray Robinson of the 2018 class. Johnson was garnering some early attention from CU, CSU, and other regional P5 programs like ASU and the Kansases. It’s not hard to see why. Big Salsa can shake.

At 6’4 and around 280 pounds (with plenty of room for more), Johnson is ahead of the curve when it comes to physical development. With another year to get ready for the college game, he will come to Boulder ready-made to create some wreckage. He plays right guard in high school, and that’s likely where he will stay in college. He already shows that he finishes plays really well, and doesn’t stop blocking until his opponent is in the dirt. As a multi-sport athlete, Big Salsa has really quick feet and can pull to the other side really well.

Welcome, Austin!
