Colorado adds a 3-star running back to the 2017 recruiting class

Fontenot becomes the third verbal from Texas.

Ron Chenoy-USA TODAY Sports

Things haven't gone quiet for Colorado Buffaloes recruiting since Laviska Shenault committed on April 22nd but there hasn't been a new verbal commitment in two months. Richmond, Texas running back Alex Fontenot changed that today by committing to head to Boulder for his college ball.

Fontenot is a consensus 3-star running back out of George Ranch High School in Richmond. He is being recruited by Darian Hagan and while he hasn't yet been to Boulder he felt like he didn't need to wait any longer. He split carries with a TCU commit last season and was still named first-team all-district.

Fontenot is the fifth verbal in the 2017 class and the first running back. He is a bigger back, at around 6'0, but is surprisingly shifty. He reads holes extremely well and can play the angles of the defenders in order to maximize. He may lack the top-end speed you'd like to see, but he is not slow by any means and has the complete package otherwise.

Welcome aboard, Alex!
