For Colorado, the last several years have not been kind to the football program, or the recruiting trail. Coach Mac, and the rest of his staff have been grinding non-stop to end these woes, and it shows in the recruiting class they've got so far for the class of 2017, with two four-stars already committed, the Buffs are in the mix for SEVERAL other blue-chip recruits.
Tyler Lytle is a 3-star Pro-Style QB recruit from Servite HS in Anaheim, CA, who Rivals rates as a top-twenty QB nationally. He's got prototypical size at 6-foot-4 and just under 200 pounds. His other offers along with the Buffs include Arizona State (who recently added Kelley, who had decommitted from Oregon less then a week before) Vanderbilt, Miami, and Cal. With the QB market for the class of 2017 drying up quickly, Lytle has recently received a ton of interest from schools who are still in need of a QB.
Lytle made it clear very early on that he is not into hyping up his recruitment the way other recruits from the west coast area have in recent days/months.He plans on contacting the coaches of the schools he will not be attending, thanking them for the opportunity, not forcing them to have to learn about his decision on Twitter. Colorado will "100% be in it." He also told me he talks to coaches Darrin Chiaverini, Mike MacIntyre, and Brian Lindgren just about every day.
Something I have been intrigued about since I began following recruiting many, many years ago, is the fact that quarterbacks are more likely then not one of the first commits to begin each elite class. Lytle feels that this is the case because it "helps to set the course of recruitment" and the committed QB instantly becomes a recruiter, rather than a recruit. He's already been networking and building relationships with other recruits he plans to potentially play with at the next level after he announces his decision, which will be public in early June, at the latest.
When Lytle does make his decision known, someone is getting a unique talent, both on and off the field. Committing no later then early June, he will be able to focus solely on recruiting for his school of choice and excelling both in the classroom and on the field for Servite. Check out his junior highlights from Hudl, and see what just could be the future of the Buffs QB position:
