National Signing Day 2016: Pookie Maka is a Colorado Buffalo!

The rangy linebacker from Utah joins the Buffs!

Scott Olmos-USA TODAY Sports

Pookie Maka joins the Buffs from their neighboring state of Utah (suck it, rivals!) Jim Leavitt's favorite recruit this cycle got a lot of attention from the coach, and all of that 'crootin paid off in the end. Maka has great playmaking ability at linbebacke, with fluid motion and a motor that just doesn't quit. He has the frame to really bulk up, and the speed to make things happen behind the line. He plays downhill and with passion. Maka might redshirt with CU, which would be the best thing academically and to help him put on weight, but he has the talent to help immediately. He also is an immediate entry into the all-name Buff team.

Notes: From Rivals: "He is just so fast and Coach Leavitt just loves his hips," Tidwell said of Maka. "He just has the stuff that you can't coach and Coach Leavitt sees the potential in being able to coach him up and sees him being able to make a huge impact. Pookie could really benefit from the structure of college where he is fed every day and is on a nutrition plan and is in a good weight lifting program. The guy is just going to balloon while keeping his speed"
