After the huge addition of Javier Edwards to the defensive line last night, the Buffs aren't done up front. Chris Mulumba, an athletic lineman playing at Diablo Valley in California, is officially a Buffalo. They are not that similar of players, but this feels like a similar signing to Jordan Carrell or Leo Jackson. For some reason, there was little to no fanfare around Carrell or Jackson, and Mulumba, who's a fantastic player in his own right, has the same "hidden gem" qualities. He originally signed with UCF last year, but ended up back at Diablo Valley Community College. Now, CU gets to reap the rewards.
It's really easy to see how Mulumba fits in to the Buffs' defense. In his tape, he shows a lot of things you love to see in a defensive lineman. Violent hands, great jump off the snap, and good bend around the edge. He normally works in a 4-3, but with an extra six months to put some good weight on him, Mulumba will do just fine as an edge player in a 3-4. He has great length and strength, but if he bulks up, he could really hold the edge. Chris will have two to play two, joining Javier Edwards as a junior newcomer. Both will play early and often, and both look like great additions for Jim Jeffcoat.
