Mike MacIntyre went to Jordan Gehrke at quarterback and an opening onside kick to try and gain the upper hand and get a spark that could help the Buffaloes try and upset the Oregon Ducks but it still let to more of the same against one of the nation's best teams.
Colorado fell, 44-10, against the Ducks dropping the Buffs to 2-9 overall and 0-8 in the Pac-12 conference. Jordan Gehrke's speed didn't create any advantage against the more talented Oregon defense. Gehrke finished with 64 yards passing on 9 completions. Sefo Liufau entered the game in the third quarter and was able to get the offense going a bit after the game was already decided, finishing with a whopping 41 yards through the air and a touchdown pass to Donovan Lee.
The Colorado defense, down both starting safeties, played well at times but still allowed the Oregon offense relatively easy, untouched touchdowns. The Oregon offense continued their torrid pace in conference play (outside of Arizona, of course) with 265 yards rushing and 332 through the air. Ducks true freshman running back Royce Freeman is a special player who will be a thorn in the side of the Pac-12 Conference for years to come.
No one expected the Buffaloes to keep this game too close and they did have some strong spurts at times despite starting the backup quarterback, being down the (should be) starting running back and with huge holes in the secondary but progress needed for this team is still gigantic. The Buffaloes will have a final chance to earn a conference win this season when they welcome the Utah Utes to Folsom Field, fresh off a rough defeat against Arizona, for the final game of the season.
