Buffaloes end the regular season with a fourth straight loss

Colorado falls to Utah in overtime, 74-72

NCAA Basketball: Colorado at California Kelley L Cox-USA TODAY Sports

The Colorado Buffaloes let a program high 22 wins and a first round bye in the Pac-12 Tournament slip through their fingers with a 74-72 loss to Utah in Salt Lake City. The loss was the Buffs’ fourth straight and sends them into postseason play reeling and trying to recover before a likely berth in the NCAA Tournament.

Utes sophomore guard Both Gach used a McKinley Wright foul with less than a second left to hit three straight free throws to give Utah the win. He scored a career-high 28 points.

Wright scored 20 points and totaled six rebounds and six assists to lead the Buffs. Tyler Bey scored 16 points and added 10 rebounds. Evan Battey added 15 points. It was an ugly game that saw Colorado squander numerous chances to put the game away. Now coach Tad Boyle will try and figure out how to get this team back to playing winning basketball before it’s too late.

“We had an opportunity to make school history in 22 wins and a first round bye and we had four chances to do it. And tonight stings the most but we have no choice but to look forward.”
