Colorado Buffaloes to play in Diamond Head Classic in 2018

The Buffs will enter a loaded tournament next season.

The Colorado Buffaloes are going back to Hawai’i in 2018. The Buffs will participate in the 2018 Diamond Head Classic hosted in Honolulu. That tournament will run from December 22 to December 25.

Any time a team schedules a prestigious pre-season tournament, they’re looking for quality wins and early experience against top teams. The Buffs in 2018 will certainly be tested as they will play a loaded field that includes St. Mary’s College, TCU and UNLV. It’s obviously too early to tell how good the Buffs will be next season, but if they improve as expected, this could be an enjoyable tournament to say the least.

If you blocked out the 2014-15 season from your memory, I wouldn’t blame you. The Buffs participated in the Diamond Head Classic that year and actually looked promising in a beatdown of DePaul, but then lost ugly games to eventual tournament winner George Washington and tournament host Hawai’i. (Do not click on the link to this box score. Askia Booker had 8 points on 13 shots and Dustin Thomas had 4 fouls in 11 minutes.) If you do remember that season, this tournament should bring back memories of Ski, but hopefully McKinley Wright (plus Evan Battey, Dallas Walton, D’Shawn Schwartz, Tyler Bey and Daylen Kountz) can remedy that.

If you’re really excited for this tournament, I would recommend spending the next 364 saving up for the trip. I’ll spend the next year working for brownie points and begging my editor to fly me out.
