Buffaloes Scoot Past Jackrabbits, 112-103

What. A. Game.

NCAA Basketball: Pac-12 Conference Tournament - Colorado vs Arizona Joshua Dahl-USA TODAY Sports

After a night with no offense from CU or University of San Diego, the Buffs delivered all kinds of firepower on Friday night against South Dakota State.

CU started out the game hot from the field. Tad Boyle sent a message, sending out the second unit to start, and the difference in effort was apparent. The team was working for the best shot and they stopped everyone on defense not named Mike Baum. Seriously, that Baum guy is stupid good. Namon Wright, Dom Collier, McKinley Wright, and George King led a balanced attack, and the Buffs led 43-36 at half.

Then the second half rolled around. Both teams kept scoring, the points kept flowing, and the refs kept up their wonderful job. A missed foul on a McKinley Wright buzzer beater attempt sent the game to overtime. This five minute period went the Jackrabbits’ way, and they held a four point lead with less than a minute left. Thank God for McKinley Wright. His pull up jumper cut the deficit to two, and a Deleon layup tied the game at 94. This sent the game to double overtime.

In double overtime, the future of the Buffs took over. McKinley starting distributing and Tyler Bey stepped into his own. He scored eight of the Buffs points in second overtime, and his stellar defense was part of the reason CU pulled away. After all was said and done, CU won 112-103, on the backs of babes.

I can’t overstate how much fun it will be to watch this team grow up.
