Dom Collier Suffers Foot Fracture, Out 4-6 Weeks

The starting point guard is out for a while.

Buff fans were greeted with some not-so-great news on Wednesday- word leaked out that Dominique Collier had fractured his foot. The original source of the news was this interview from Mark Johnson on the weekly Buffalo Stampede show, in which Collier talks about the team’s depth and his role. Johnson referenced the boot on his foot and then asked about the injury, which Dom detailed as a fracture that will keep him out for a while.

The good news is that he should be back by conference play (ish) and definitely back in the swing of things in the meat of the schedule. However, Dom’s defensive presence and running of the offense will be missed against teams like Xavier and BYU. A veteran presence even as a freshman, Collier would calm the floor and make the smart pass. Wesley will most definitely miss his post-entry passes. But, he’s not gone forever and CU has some depth to replace him. Derrick White has started at point guard the last 2 games anyways, and he should continue that role as CU fans want to see the ball in his hands as much as possible.

This also leaves some minutes for the young bucks to step into. Deleon Brown has flashed defensively and athletically in the past two games, and Bryce Peters was just lifted of his two game suspension. Peters come back at a perfect time, and he could be the third point man this team has been looking for. Thomas Akyazili will also see bump in minutes. Get well soon, Dom, but don’t rush it, because the team is in good hands.
