Much to the chagrin of most Colorado Buffaloes fans, the Rocky Mountain Showdown is being renewed, in a much different form. The named matchup between CU and the Colorado State Rams will be in hiatus until 2023, when it will be renewed in home-and-home form with some breaks in between. The announcement for new dates is below:

This future announcement helps shore up some finances in the far future for the athletic department. COVID-19 and the associated lockdowns have affected every aspect of life, and college sports were especially vulnerable. A guaranteed sellout in the non-conference will help soften that blow, even if it is all-risk-no-reward on the field. It’s impossible to know what shape the Buffs and the Rams will be in for any of these games, so for now, I wouldn’t sweat any potential losses.
The Buffs’ non-conference schedule in the next decade is almost shored up. A surge in OOC Power 5 schools will make these upcoming slates very exciting, starting with a Texas A&M matchup in Denver in 2021.
