A total of 17 former Colorado Buffaloes made the cut on NFL rosters Sunday. Out of those, 13 players made the final 53-man of their respective teams with the rest being retained on the practice squad.
The NFL allowed each team six additional, non-regulated veteran practice squad players due to the COVID-19 pandemic, pushing the total to 16 players.
Two players previously decided to opt out due to COVID-19. Offensive lineman Nate Solder (N.Y. Giants) and defensive lineman Josh Tupou (Cincinnati Bengals) will be on the roster, but won’t see action until 2021.
Out of the Buffs to make the final cut was Chicago Bears seventh-round pick Arlington Hambright. The 6-foot-5, 300-pound offensive lineman came to Boulder as a transfer from Oklahoma State and made the best of his time with the Bears in camp. Hambright joins Laviska Shenault Jr. (Jaguars) and Davion Taylor (Eagles) as newcomers in the league to make a 53-man roster.
Shenault was a second-round pick (42nd overall) of the Jacksonville Jaguars. The wildcat specialist led the Buffs in receiving yards last year. He ended his career with 1,943 receiving yards and 17 total touchdowns.
As for Taylor, the third-round pick (103rd overall) of the Philadelphia Eagles came to Boulder two years ago as a transfer from Coahoma C.C. (Clarksdale, Miss.). The former top-rated JUCO player gathered up 129 tackles with two sacks and a touchdown at CU.
Three players were released from NFL rosters and have yet to land elsewhere as of Monday morning. Wide receiver Juwann Winfree was let go by the Denver Broncos, along with veteran receiver Paul Richardson by the Seattle Seahawks, and cornerback Ken Crawley by the Arizona Cardinals.
