Karl Dorrell continues to round out his staff. Brian Howell of Boulder Daily Camera first reported that the Colorado Buffaloes will hire Demetrice Martin as defensive backs coach.
Martin is a highly respected cornerbacks coach who has been in the Pac-12 for the past 11 seasons. He was on staff for the Washington Huskies from 2009-11, UCLA from 2012-17 and Arizona 2018-2019. Most of those teams had strong secondary play, as he most notably coached Desmond Trufant, Randall Goforth and Jaleel Wadood.
Just as important as his coaching, Martin is better known for his recruiting acumen. He was rated as Arizona’s top recruiter in the last recruiting cycle, per Adam Munsterteiger. The Buffs should see an uptick in recruiting talent at the cornerback position.
Martin takes over for Travares Tillman, whom Mel Tucker brought from Georgia to Colorado. He will work under defensive coordinator Tyson Summers and help a developing secondary. The Buffs will return Mekhi Blackmon, K.J. Trujillo, Chris Miller and Tarik Luckett. He will also work with safeties Mark Perry and Christian Gonzalez, the Buffs’ most highly touted underclassmen.
The Buffaloes coaching staff, as of now, goes as follows:
