Two weeks after Mel Tucker vacated for Michigan State, the Colorado Buffaloes found a new head coach. According to reports former UCLA coach and Miami Dolphins assistant Karl Dorrell will be taking over in Boulder for the 2020 football season.

Dorrell, 56, spent five seasons at UCLA and led the Bruins to a 35-27 record with bowl appearances in each season from 2003-07. He has spent time as an NFL assistant since departing from Westwood, most recently as a wide receivers coach with the Dolphins this past season and at the same capacity with the New York Jets from 2015-18.

A third stint for Dorrell at Colorado after serving under both Bill McCartney as a wide receivers coach from 1992-93, and again as the offensive coordinator during Rick Neuheisel’s entire tenure with the Buffs from 1995-98. Dorrell’s only other tie to the state of Colorado came as the wide receivers coach under Mike Shanahan and the Denver Broncos for three seasons from 2000-02.

The terms of Dorrell’s deal with CU haven’t been announced. This story is developing.
