The Colorado Buffaloes escaped this past week with a road sweep over California and Stanford. It wasn’t as easy as it should have been, but the sweep coincided with yet another tumultuous week in the AP Top 25. As such, the Buffs have moved up from #24 to #XX in the latest AP Poll. This is the highest they have been ranked since they were #15 in January of 2014.
Across college basketball, there were XX losses by teams in the previous Top 25. The Buffs were able to move up 8 spots because of losses by #10 Villanova (twice), #14 Oregon, #16 Michigan State (twice), #17 Iowa, #18 LSU (twice), #20 Illinois, #21 Creighton and #23 Arizona.
Also of note, the Buffaloes are now the highest ranked team in the Pac-12, as Oregon fell to #17 and Arizona fell from the rankings. Colorado is in sole possession of first place in the conference with a 8-3 record, which is 1.5 games ahead of Oregon and 2.5 games ahead of Arizona. Huge shoutout to Oregon State and UCLA (on the road!) for pulling off those upsets.
The Buffs will enter what may be their most difficult stretch of the Pac-12 schedule. They will visit the Oregon Ducks on Thursday, then face the Oregon State Beavers on Sunday. If the Buffs can split that road trip, they will still be in control of the Pac-12.
