It could have been better, it could have been worse. For now, splitting the Arizona road trip was enough for the Buffs to stay in the Top 25. They come in at #23 in the latest poll.
This past week was quite tumultuous for the Top 25. There were 16 losses by ranked teams: #3 Duke (twice), #4 Auburn (two blowouts), #5 Butler (twice), #8 Oregon, #10 Kentucky, #12 West Virginia, #16 Wichita State (twice), #17 Maryland, #19 Michigan, #20 Colorado, #21 Ohio State and #25 Creighton.
That’s a lot of teams dropping. Colorado was never going to beat Arizona — the Wildcats trounced them in every facet of the game — but it’s tempting to wonder how far CU could have jumped with a win. Regardless, it’s a good thing so many teams lost because no one should get punished for losing at Arizona.
This coming week is a good opportunity for CU to make a small leap, if others keep losing. They play Washington State and Washington at home, and although Oregon just lost to Wazzu and went to overtime against UW, those should be wins.
Of note, Arizona moved into the Top 25 to claim the #22 spot, while Oregon dropped to #12. Other Colorado opponents Kansas and Dayton are ranked #3 and #7, respectively, and Northern Iowa is unofficially 29th in the poll.
