Colorado Buffaloes ranked 20th in AP Top 25

The Buffs are 13-3 this season.

After a beat down of Utah on Sunday, the Buffs are now 20th in the AP Poll, tied for the highest they have been this season and since January 2014.

Colorado has spent almost all season in the Top 25. They were unranked to start the season, but moved in immediately after a season-opening win over Arizona State in Shanghai. The Buffs dropped out five weeks later when they lost at home to Northern Iowa, but they got back in with impressive wins over Dayton (currently #13) and Oregon (#8).

The real reason CU rose five spots in the poll was because it was a hard week for most of the former Top 25. Ten different ranked teams lost this week, including Ohio State (twice), Virginia (twice), Penn State (twice), Memphis, Texas Tech (twice), and Arizona (twice), all of whom Colorado surpassed in the rankings.

Oregon and Colorado are the only ranked teams in the Pac-12. Arizona has spent the entire season in the polls, but they lost to Oregon in overtime and were blown out by Oregon State; the Wildcats have lost 5 of their last 7 games. Washington also spent time in the Top 25, but have lost to UCLA, Stanford and Cal already in Pac-12 play. Stanford is unofficially 27th in the AP Poll after their 14-2 start to the season, so they should be ranked if they beat UCLA and USC this week.

The current AP Poll goes as follows:

  1. Gonzaga Bulldogs
  2. Baylor Bears
  3. Duke Blue Devils
  4. Auburn Tigers
  5. Butler Bulldogs
  6. Kansas Jayhawks
  7. San Diego State Aztecs
  8. Oregon Ducks
  9. Florida State Seminoles
  10. Kentucky Wildcats
  11. Louisville Cardinals
  12. West Virginia Mountaineers
  13. Dayton Flyers
  14. Villanova Wildcats
  15. Michigan State Spartans
  16. Wichita State Shockers
  17. Maryland Terrapins
  18. Seton Hall Pirates
  19. Michigan Wolverines
  20. Colorado Buffaloes
  21. Ohio State Buckeyes
  22. Memphis Tigers
  23. Texas Tech Red Raiders
  24. Illinois Fighting Illini
  25. Creighton Blue Jays
