Buffaloes HC Mel Tucker is showing proof of concept recruiting

It didn’t take long for Tucker to succeed

NCAA Basketball: UCLA at Colorado Ron Chenoy-USA TODAY Sports

I’ll be honest, I didn’t expect this. The Colorado Buffaloes are coming off a 5-7 season, in which they lost 7 straight to lose out on a bowl. That is the definition of no momentum. Under most circumstances, it’d be hard to get P5 high school prospects excited to check out CU as a potential destination.

THESE ARE NOT NORMAL CIRCUMSTANCES. We all knew that Mel Tucker would be on top of recruiting when he was hired. He is a great showrunner, if anything, meticulous with details and filled to the brim with quiet confidence and passion. Then he hired some great recruiters (Chris Kapilovic at O-line coach was a dream hire), retained some more (Darrin Chiaverini is a continued miracle workers), and has made himself for available than the past few staffs. And the results are showing.

According to 247 Sports, the official visit list for the next few weekends is set. For more in-depth info, please consider giving Adam Munsterteiger and Buffstampede a subscription, he does great work. To protect the paywall and stay in their good graces, I’m only working off the publicly available info, and even that should get fans excited:

May 31 – June 2

Jared Ivey – Georgia OLB – A classic pass rusher frame at 6’6, Ivey just needs to put on weight to turn into a monster. Think Jimmie Gilbert but even scarier.

Jaqwondis Burns – Texas OLB – Ole Miss Commit

Chris Carpenter – Texas WR – This man is pure speed on the field. Don’t bet against Coach Chev in Texas.

Mikial Onu – SMU SS – Grad transfer – Another surprise on the trail, Onu would immediately solve a lot of depth issues at safety next year. He was a consistent starter for SMU and racks up tackles.

June 8 – June 10

Christian Gonzalez – Texas DB – Gonzalez is starting to blow up recently, and the secondary is thin going forward.

Keith Miller – Texas WR – A high school teammate of Gonzalez, Miller is a Kansas that is still shopping around. He is a polished, athletic pass-catcher.

Jayland Parker – Georgia ILB – Parker has already unofficially visited, so watch for him to pull the trigger for CU soon. He is an undersized missile on the field, very similar to the LB corps Tucker wreaked havoc with at Georgia.

Alton Julian – Juco CB

Jaylan Jeffers – Arizona OT – National offers with Oregon sniffing around, this is a great sign for future prospects.

Myles Price – Texas ATH

June 14 – June 16

Donovan Kaufman – Louisiana S

Gerad Lichtenhan – California OT

Patrick Jenkins – Louisiana DE – From the same high school as Kordell Stewart, Jenkins is starting to blow up. He is a classic hybrid end that would do well in this multiple front defense

Maceal Afaese – Hawaii DE – this is all Coach Pupunu. SO glad that CU is starting to be a presence in Hawaii again.

Caleb Fauria – Massachusetts WR/TE – The son of CU great Christian Fauria, Caleb is a pass-catching TE that would get immediate playing time.

Marvin Mims – Texas WR

Like I said, this list is a better three weekend stretch than most anything fans saw over the six year MacIntyre reign. Tucker is hitting the ground running. Just wait until he wins some games.
