Colorado Buffaloes defensive back Mikial Onu may not return against Arizona. The nation’s leader in forced turnovers was taken out of the game with a lower back/hip injury late in the second quarter is questionable to return.
Onu, a graduate transfer from SMU has started every game this season with 24 tackles, four pass interceptions, three pass deflections, and two forced fumbles. A total of 40 career games (24 starts) with 219 tackles, six interceptions, 14 pass breakups, three tackles for a loss and a half-sack at SMU.
This is another hit for a team already depleted in the secondary currently without three starters: Onu, Chris Miller (ACL) and Aaron Maddox (laceration). Former backup quarterback Sam Noyer replaces Onu at safety, while freshman K.J. Trujillo replaced Miller and Derrion Rakestraw is in for Maddox.
On the defensive line, the Buffs will be without Jalen Sami. The freshman nose tackle was helped off the field in the first half and was ruled out at halftime. He was replaced by true freshman Austen Williams. The defensive line is plagued by injuries as well, as Mustafa Johnson (ankle) was replaced by Na’im Rodman.
