It’s the spookiest month of the year, so it makes sense the college football’s boogeyman has knocked on the Colorado Buffaloes’ door. The transfer portal has arrived and taken two new players from the Buffs. Aaron Maddox and Darrion Jones, two experienced contributors on this roster, have both entered the transfer portal.
Both Maddox and Jones have only played in four games this year, meaning they can redshirt and keep a year of eligibility. Aaron Maddox is a junior who was a starter this year until an unfortunate injury against Air Force sidelined him until last week. Darrion Jones is a big athlete at tight end, and his contributions on offense and special teams will be missed. Both were Mike MacIntyre recruits, so it makes some sense why they might be asking out of Mel Tucker’s program. Still, these losses hurt the Buffs. Tight and safety are not positions of great depth for CU, and they will need replacements that can play immediately for 2020 and beyond.
For this season, expect Mark Perry and Beau Bisharat to get some more playing time as the season progresses. Perry is an exciting freshman who has loads of potential, and the more playing time he gets now, the better he will be later. Bisharat is an interesting receiving option out of the backfield, and may need more consistent hands to see the field more.
