Juwann Winfree got the start for the American squad in Saturday’s NFLPA Collegiate Bowl from the Rose Bowl. And with one catch, the former Colorado Buffaloes wide receiver made a terrific first impression for NFL scouts.

Trailing 7-0 with 7:35 remaining in the 3rd Quarter, Rhode Island’s JaJuan Lawson lofted a pass to the corner of the end zone. Winfree made a spectacular leaping catch for the touchdown to tie the game at seven. Take a look for yourself:

Originally recruited by Maryland as a four-star recruit, Winfree transferred to Colorado via Coffeyville Community College (Kan.) following his 2015 season. After redshirting in 2016 due a torn ACL, he played in all 12 games for the Buffaloes in 2017. Winfree had a breakthrough performance in a 38-24 loss to USC in 2017, registering five catches for 163 yards and two touchdowns. In two seasons with the Buffaloes, he finished with 49 receptions for 649 yards and four touchdowns.

Winfree finished the NFLPA Collegiate Bowl with two receptions for 30 yards including that spectacular touchdown. Former Colorado running back Travon McMillian and defensive tackle Javier Edwards joined Winfree on the American squad. McMillian, who accounted for 1,127 yards for the Buffaloes in 2018, finished with 36 total yards on the day, 12 rushing and 24 receiving.

Hopefully this bodes well for Winfree’s NFL prospects.
