The Colorado Buffaloes beat down Texas State to move to 2-0 on the season, but they will have to wait at least another week to be ranked. The Week 3 polls close with the Buffs 27th in the Coaches Poll and 28th in the AP Poll.
The Buffs have now finished 27th in all three Coaches Polls and they move up one spot in the AP Poll. We were hoping that CU would jump into the rankings after #24 Notre Dame lost, but it isn’t surprising that the Buffs are still on the outside looking. What is surprising, however, is that UCLA was the team to jump into the Top 25 after being outgained by the woeful Hawaii Warriors. It also seems that the Bruins are being rewarded for falling behind 44-10 to be a poor Texas A&M team last week.
Anyway, the Buffs are still in good position to climb into the rankings before they host #6 Washington in Week 4. Assuming CU takes care of FCS Northern Colorado this upcoming week, they will just need an upset or two to earn that number next to their name. The most likely upsets would be #25 UCLA (@ Memphis), #22 USF (vs. Illinois), #20 TCU (vs. SMU), #18 Kansas State (@ Vanderbilt), and #1 Alabama (vs. Colorado State) (just kidding).
Just to erase any doubt, it would be great to see the Buffs beat UNC by 60 points on Saturday.
