Preseason week one is on the books and quite a few rookie Buffs made big impressions on their new NFL teams. Here’s a look at some of the more notable performances, both good and bad.

SEFO LIUFAU, QB (TAMPA BAY BUCCANEERS)

Sefo received a standing ovation for his rookie sing-along performance of Shai’s ‘If I ever fall in love’ on episode one of HBO’s ‘Hard Knocks: Training Camp with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ Tuesday. Three days later, the undrafted free agent saw time in the Buccaneers 23-12 loss to the Cincinnati Bengals. Due to an injury to Ryan Griffin early in the fourth quarter, Liufau entered the game with 2:48 left in the game. Beginning at their own 20-yard line, he completed 4-5 passes for 31 yards and rushed three times for 12 yards before the drive stalled at the Bengals 29-yard line, resulting in a 47-yard missed field goal.

Former Buff 362-lb nose tackle Josh Tupou, listed fifth on the Bengals unofficial depth chart, recorded a tackle in the game.

KENNETH OLUGBODE, MLB (CLEVELAND BROWNS)

With all eyes on number one overall pick Myles Garrett, it was an undrafted free agent middle linebacker who stole the show in the Browns 20-14 win over the Saints Thursday. Kenneth Olugbode led all Browns defenders with five tackles, four of which were solo.

Olugbode is listed third on the unofficial depth chart at middle linebacker. The Browns host the Giants in their next preseason tilt on Monday, August 21.

CHIDOBE AWUZIE, CB & JORDAN CARRELL, DT (DALLAS COWBOYS)

Awuzie recorded two tackles in the Cowboys Hall-of-Fame game win over the Arizona Cardinals to open the preseason. Listed third on the Cowboys unofficial depth chart at cornerback, the Cowboys second round pick could see action at several positions this fall. Jordan Carrell recorded three total tackles (2 solo) in the Cowboys second preseason game, a 13-10 loss to the Los Angeles Rams on Saturday. The 7th round pick Carrell is listed as the fourth string right defensive tackle. Awuzie and Carrell will be back in action Saturday, August 19 as the Cowboys host the Colts.

AHKELLO WITHERSPOON, CB, SAN FRANCISCO 49ERS

Witherspoon recorded a tackle in the 49ers 27-17 win over the Kansas City Chiefs. He’s listed second at right cornerback behind Rashard Robinson on the unofficial depth chart. The 49ers next host the Denver Broncos on Saturday, August 19.

TEDRIC THOMPSON, FS, SEATTLE SEAHAWKS

Another former #MoneyGang member, now representing the Seahawks ‘Legion of Boom,’ didn’t fare too well in his preseason opener. Tedric Thompson, listed third on the Seahawks unofficial depth chart, did record two tackles in Seattle’s 48-17 win over the Los Angeles Chargers, but the free safety also got burned by speedster Travis Benjamin for 74-yard TD reception (:46 seconds into the highlights video linked).

Former Buffs receiver Paul Richardson Jr., in his fourth year with the Seahawks, did make a statement by laying out for this reception in the first quarter.

He finished the game with two receptions for 30 yards. Richardson and Thompson next take to the field Friday, August 18 at home versus the Minnesota Vikings.
