The Buff Bracket marches on. The coaches now move into the next step of the bracket, with some interesting matchups and a whole lot of firepower.

#1 Mark Wetmore vs. #8 Fred Folsom
Wetmore continues his “run” through the bracket, butting heads with Fred Folsom. These two have impeccable winning records and established dominance for their respective programs. Wetmore does have better hair. Impeccable. However, Fred does have a building named after him.

Who’s the Better Buff Coach?
#5 Dal Ward vs. #13 Eddie Crowder
Dal Ward wins the name game here, but that’s not the only important factor to consider. Ward helped carry the Buffs to the Big 8 and enjoyed a long administrative career. Crowder followed the same career path. Both were coaches before they were athletic department employees, and both excelled in all facets.

Which Football Coach/AD is the Better Buff?
#3 Ceal Barry vs. #11 Tad Boyle
Woof, this is a tough matchup. I very much want both of these coaches to advance. It is also the only Round of 32 matchup with two current CU employees. Barry was dominant as a WBB coach. She built the program, sustained its success, and nurtured it even after she was done roaming the sidelines. She has been a fantastic ambassador for the Buffs in all phases of her career. Boyle shares many of the same qualities, though he lacks the longevity of Barry. He is a great representative of CU and truly molds boys into men. His peak successes have rarely been reached in men’s basketball history, and he should continue to lead the BasketBuffs in the coming years.

Which Basketball Coach Advances to the Sweet 16?
#7 Bill Marolt vs. #2 Bill McCartney
This is a fun one because Marolt oversaw most of Bill McCartney’s tenure. Marolt is quite possibly the most efficiently successful coach in CU history. He only needed 10 years to get 7 national titles. After his ridiculously successful ski tenure, he had a ridiculously successful AD tenure, which saw Ceal Barry’s rise and the rise of the 2 seed, Bill McCartney. McCartney is obviously the most well-known coach in CU history, and his football national championship has a special place in the hearts of Buff fans.
