Mistakes cost the Buffs their first conference win, the women’s volleyball program is back where they belong after a stunner in Boulder, and speaking of the Ducks, you won’t believe who Willie Taggart’s squad is favored over this weekend. Feeling motivated to go work out. Meanwhile, enjoy this week’s Buff Bites.
DEFENDING PAC-12 SOUTH CHAMPS STILL SEEKING FIRST CONFERENCE WIN
Dropped passes, untimely penalties and a horrendous attempt at a fake field goal was the difference in the Colorado Buffaloes 27-23 loss Saturday to the UCLA Bruins. The defending Pac-12 South champions are now 0-2 in conference play. Here’s a glance at how the rest of the conference fared in week five, courtesy of my colleague Jack Barsch.
FRANK UMU DISMISSED FROM TEAM
Prior to their matchup vs. UCLA, sophomore defensive end Frank Umu was dismissed from the program following a violation of team rules. Reason for the dismissal was not provided due to privacy concerns.
RECORD BREAKING PERFORMANCES
Congrats to the CU Women’s golf team who carded a school record 18-under par (834) to capture the Coeur D’Alene Resort Collegiate Invitational last Tuesday. Sophomore Kirsty Hodgkins took home medalist honors with rounds of 68, 65 & 70 to finish 10-under par. It was Hodgkins’ first career win.

BACK IN THE TOP 25
Colorado’s Volleyball program is back in the AVCA Top-25 thanks to a stunning upset of the 12th ranked Oregon Ducks on Saturday night. For their efforts, Naghede Abu and Brynna Deluzio earned Pac-12 Player of the Week honors Monday.

Head coach Jesse Mahoney and company hit the road to take on Washington State Friday in Pullman, WA and the 9th ranked Washington Huskies Sunday in Seattle. You can check out the Buffs in action on Pac-12 Networks.
THIS COMES AS NO SURPRISE
#Boulder named "fittest city in U.S." in new study; 70% of people say they worked out 3 or more times in past week: https://t.co/lpq1jXqaaP pic.twitter.com/SKiw9Ny729

However, this scribe did NOT work out three times this past week. But then again, I don’t live in Boulder. Maybe it’s time to move?
ARIZONA GAME UNIFORMS
The Buffs will be breaking out the white-black-white uniform combination for this weekend’s game vs. the Arizona Wildcats. Game time is set for 6 p.m. MT and can be seen on Pac-12 Networks.
OREGON STATE GAME TIME SET

THIS IS NOT FAKE NEWS!
Oregon opens the week as 2.5 point favorites over No. 11 Washington State.

When I originally saw this tweet, I didn’t think it was legit. But sure enough, the Oregon Ducks have opened as 2.5 point favorites over the 11th ranked Washington State Cougars. You know, the squad coached by Mike Leach who knocked off 5th ranked USC on Friday night. Even our Oregon site, Addicted to Quack can’t believe the spread. Maybe oddsmakers didn’t get the memo that Oregon’s starting quarterback Justin Herbert is “out for a while” according to head coach Willie Taggart after suffering a broken collarbone is the Ducks 45-21 win over California Saturday. Either way, I like the Cougars +2.5 on the road.
