There will be no change at quarterback for the Colorado Buffaloes as Steven Montez remains the starter on Saturday vs. California, per an announcement from coach Mike MacIntyre.
Montez has thrown for 1,712 yards, 12 touchdowns and 6 interceptions in the first eight games of the season. He was benched for backup Sam Noyer at halftime of last week’s 28-0 shutout vs. No. 15 Washington State. MacIntyre prompted an open competition for the starting position between Montez and Noyer, seeking a change after both passers combined for a season low 74 yards.
A team source said both Montez and Noyer looked good with the first team offense over the course of the week. Montez, the most experienced quarterback on the roster, gets another start with a 6-5 record going back to last season playing for the injured Sefo Liufau. Noyer, a redshirt freshman from Beaverton, Ore, remains the backup ahead of walk-on Casey Marksberry.
