Top basketball recruit Evan Battey commits to the Buffaloes

Future folk hero joins a loaded 2017 class.

Evan Battey announced today, his 18th birthday, that he has committed to the University of Colorado. Battey is the third four-star prospect to commit to CU just this month. He joins Tyler Bey and D’Shawn Schwartz in a loaded 2017 recruiting class that is now rated as the 8th best class in the nation (247Sports), ahead of every Pac-12 school except Washington and UCLA.

Battey comes highly touted out of Villa Park, California, as he was ranked as the ninth-best recruit in the Golden State. According to ESPN, Rivals and 247Sports, Battey had an extensive offer list that included Miami (FL), Purdue and Arizona State.

If there’s any one word to describe Battey’s game, it would be "fun". At 6’7 and 290 lbs. with a smooth and polished game, we’ve never seen a player like Battey at CU, much less in the Pac-12. As a power forward, he will bring a physical dimension on both ends of the court (he’s a nasty screener). He also has a dynamic offensive game that will make him a scoring threat from everywhere on the floor on every possession.

Given his size, shooting touch and personality, there is a 128% chance that Battey becomes a folk hero in Boulder. About that personality ...

He’s going to be so fun to watch for the next four years.
