Tad Boyle and the Colorado Buffaloes have secured the commitment of Tyler Bey, a 4-star combo forward (yes, that’s a thing) from Middlebrooks Academy in Los Angeles. His commitment is the first of Boyle’s 2017 recruiting class.

Bey, the 6’8, 200-pound high school senior, is the quintessential Tad Boyle recruit. Physically, Bey is long, athletic and has plenty of ups, though he’ll have to bulk up to play power forward. Offensively, he has improved significantly* at ball handling and shooting to open up a creative driving game, à la Thaddeus Young; he couples this with strong instincts on the offensive glass. Defensively, Bey is a bit raw, but his length and basketball IQ make him a high-upside player on that end.

*That linked article has a great scouting video for Bey.

Bey choose the Buffs from an offer list of twelve that included the likes of New Mexico, Arizona State, Colorado State and Utah. He committed Saturday morning, two days after his official visit to Boulder.

Bey is rated as a four-star prospect by both Scout and 247Sports, where he’s ranked as the 121st and 122nd best prospect in the 2017 class, respectively.
