If the headline looks familiar to you, that's because it is-recruits can't commit to Boulder fast enough. It is getting to the point where a day without a commitment is seemingly out-of-place. And today is just as exciting, perhaps even more so for me, than every other. Maurice Bell, my favorite receiver prospect in Cali and total stud, has pledged to the Buffs. Bell was profiled way back on April 1st on this site as a high-priority target, and he made his decision more than two months later. Here's what we had to say about him back then:
If the Buffs strike out on Nixon and Shenault, then Maurice Bell is a really nice consolation prize. He is really fun to watch. You know those receivers that have that Randy Moss stride, where it doesn't like they're running fast at all and then they blow by everybody? That's what Bell has. Maurice has a great frame, and he should be able to pack on some pounds easily in college without losing speed. He doesn't show very many sharp cuts, but that's not to say he can't do it, it's just that he doesn't have to with his route running and speed. Bell runs really nice routes and makes it easy on the quarterbacks. His offer list isn't as competitive as others on this list, and he has expressed a desire to visit Boulder. Get him in town and watch him fall in love.
CU may have struck out with Nixon, but Shenault and Bell, combined with Jaylon Jackson, make a ridiculously talented receiving corps. Bell blew up this summer, with a late offer and push from Michigan worrying Buff fans, but CU won out in the end. Of the 11 commitments that CU has received this cycle, three are from Colorado, four from Texas, and four from California. That's what the best teams in CU history were built on. Recruiting is a blast right now, and it's not even close to over.
