We are in the throes of the offseason, where recruiting news is slower than the summer and Davis Webb is jerking our chain before he takes off (get ready for it, Buff fans). But we are not here to talk about such silly things like the future or present of this football program. I, as a respected journalist, don't stoop so low to such subjects. I stay on the important topics, like making fun of Oregon and Arizona State, while also applauding the Buffs. And that's what this article does. Let's rank the PAC-12 color schemes! I miss football.
NUMBER 12: ARIZONA STATE'S MUSTARD YELLOW AND DIRTY RED
This is unquestionably the worst, and it gets even grosser (yes, I know it's not a word) given their recent update to try to get more copper in it or whatever. This is what I'm talking about. There is not a single school color in that uniform. It's really hard to look badass when you are a walking condiment advertisement. And can I just say that "Forks Up" is a better slogan for a buffet race than a team?
NUMBER 11: OREGON'S RAINBOW AND METALS
See, Oregon's color scheme is really similar to ASU's, in that both are not conducive to a cool scheme. However, for years, Oregon successfully pulled off a "I don't care what you say" look. Recently, they've decided to chuck tradition out the window and try to get every color, including all the rare earth elements. Like, what is this? They actually wore that on a field, and claimed to be Oregon. It's jumped the shark in a big way, which is weird, because ducks don't have to jump, they have wings!
On the other hand, Rainbow and Metal is a pretty good ska band name.
NUMBER 10-7: THE BORING RED SCHOOLS (SANS USC)
Red sucks as a color fight me (except Oklahoma, Jon). Washington State is a boring variation of red and white, as is Stanford, as is Arizona. Except Arizona gets worse when they combine red and blue. There's a reason Star Wars put those colors against each other.
NUMBER 6: CALIFORNIA'S DEEP BLUE AND YELLOW
I try to stay as unbiased as possible in these rankings because they are obviously very serious and should be treated with the utmost respect. If I had my way, Cal would be higher up on this list. But UCLA is objectively better, and they have basically the same colors. So sorry Cal. But the ocean blue and yellow is a really nice combo, and represents northern California. These are pretty gross, though. Just goes to show that yellow goes best as an accent color.
NUMBER 5: OREGON STATE'S HALLOWEEN COLORS
Oregon State needs to stand out somehow, right? And they aren't scaring anyone any other way. *Zing*
NUMBER 4:USC'S "CRIMSON" AND GOLD
The most classic color combo in the PAC-12 (yeah, screw you, UCLA). And they get mad when you just say its red and gold. It's "Crimson" and Gold, and it looks damn fine on a Saturday afternoon. But its still red, and they're still USC, so they go 4th. The unquestioned best colors in the L.A. area go to the 70's Rams, which had the best uniforms of all time. This is probably not the best place for this, but can we also say that Fight On is pretty sweet, and I love Andy Enfield. However, they use black way too much in basketball. I guess it's better than the yellow, but red and white is just fine.
NUMBER 3: UCLA'S BABY BLUE AND GOLD
Now this is where it gets serious. The next three are some of the tops in college football, and it all starts with the most Southern Cal color scheme possible. The Bruins' colors just scream sunshine and beaches, and their teams also play like they'd rather be there, too (zing again). These 90's uniforms have the perfect shade of blue, but they've gone a bit darker recently. I would be remiss if I didn't mention how pretty those script numbers are as well. UCLA's colors produces the finesse that counters the USC's brutish colors. I really wish the UCLA went full Odyssey and named themselves the Grecians. It would fit so well.
NUMBER 2: WASHINGTON'S PURPLE AND GOLD
I know I said that I try to keep bias out of this, but none of this makes sense and I'm just going to go for it. Udub has an AWESOME color scheme. Purple and Gold? Purple and Gold? No one is purple and gold. It's awesome. It looks great, it looks like Seattle for some reason, and it's unique. A+ effort, Huskies.
NUMBER 1: THE BLACK AND GOLD
Was there any doubt? I mean, c'mon. The first to do silver and black, one of the first to black and gold, and the BEST to do both. The Buffs are perfect in every way, but ESPECIALLY this way. Black and gold is the best color combo, and the amount of teams that use it is evidence. But CU does it the best, and CU does it the most, and we win. I mean, just look at that! They belong together, black and gold. It just looks right.
Man, football needs to get here quick, for both of our sakes.
