The Colorado Buffaloes won a nailbiter against the Stanford Cardinal, 56-55. Josh Scott recorded another double double, scoring 14 point to lead the team, as well as recording 14 rebounds. Michael Humphrey of Stanford led all scorers with 19 points. It was a sloppy night for Colorado, who finished with 18 turnovers as they got the win to finish the first road trip of conference play at 1-1.
The Buffaloes got off to a good start, taking a 12-5 lead into the first media timeout. Josh Fortune lead the Buffs with 10 first half points, and did not score after the half. Michael Humphrey went into the half with 11 to lead the Cardinal. The Buffs were on fire from the field, shooting 50% (13-26) as they took a 37-27 lead into the locker room.
However, Colorado was not interested in making it easy on themselves and let Stanford back into the game in the second half. The Buffs shooting in the second half regressed to the mean, shooting 32% from the field while being outscored 19-28 by the Cardinal. Colorado committed 10 second half turnovers as they made every effort to hand Stanford this basketball game, going scoreless from the 9:08 mark until a King layup with 4:38 left in the game.
Luckily for the Buffs, the Cardinal were not interested in taking it as they went scoreless for 5:13 of the final 6:26. Colorado got the ball with 37 seconds remaining, but were unable to score a game sealing basket, as they settled for a Josh Scott three pointer. Roscoe Allen was able to steal the rebound from Scott, but knocked the ball out of bounds, giving it back to Colorado and allowing them to run the clock out, sealing the victory.
The Buffs will welcome the 11-4 Utah Utes to Coors on January 8th for their first home game of conference play.
