Sheriron Jones released from scholarship, returning to Tennessee

So that was fun for like a week.

Roughly two weeks ago Buffaloes fans were excited at the prospect of former Tennessee volunteer and four-star quarterback Sheriron Jones transferring to Boulder to compete for the starting job in two years. That fun didn't last long.

Obviously there is more to the story here and probably a good reason for the switcheroo but it's still a bummer for Colorado in the long run.

So, Davis Webb come on down?

Here is the release from the University:

University of Colorado head football coach Mike MacIntyre announced Friday that he has released quarterback Sheriron Jones from his scholarship so that the redshirt freshman can return to the University of Tennessee.

"My job is to work with the whole person," MacIntyre said. "Each player is unique and comes with unique needs and concerns. Throughout the past couple of weeks, Sheriron and I have spent a lot of time trying to sort out his circumstances. We have concluded that it is in his best interests for him to return to Tennessee."

Jones had transferred to CU from Tennessee earlier this month; there is an NCAA rule that allows a student-athlete to return to the school he transferred from if he decides to do so within a 14-day window.
