Colorado Buffaloes Opponent Recap: Week 13 - The Crazy Pac-12

It's effectively the end of the regular season, and the Pac-12 is not what we expected...at all. If you foresaw the Pac-12 championship game coming down to this, then please go to an asylum, because you are a crazy person.

Scott Olmos-US PRESSWIRE

Colorado State Rams (4-8, 3-5 MW)

Won vs. New Mexico 24-20

Now playing their 17th* quarterback of the season, CSU's Conner Smith threw up for 254 yds passing and 2 touchdowns, with the second coming with 1:30 left to go in the game. The Lobos put a last-second pass in the endzone, but the Rams defended the pass to win 'least-worst-team on I-25'.

*probably not

Next: Home to Ft. Morgan Collins to pretend like they're actually going to build that staduim.

Sacramento State Hornets (6-5, 4-4 Big Sky)

Lost @ Cal-Davis 27-34

Sac-State lost close games to playoff-bound teams over the season... and then 3-7 Cal-Davis came along and put up 5 points in the first quarter and 18 points in the second. I'm sure the 4 turnovers and 5 sacks didn't help either.

Next: Visit wonderful Sacramento! Voted "not as bad as Stockton" in 2009!

Fresno State Bulldogs (9-3, 7-1 MW)

Won vs. Air Force 48-15

Tim D might actually be in consideration to coach Colorado... especially when you consider that he's beaten all three I-A teams in the state.

Next: The M*F-ing Hawai'i Bowl against SMU. SMU's in a bowl game? You gotta be kidding me...

Washington State Cougars (3-9, 1-8 Pac-12)

Won vs. #25 Washington 31-28 OT

Fitting that Wazzu got their one conference win against rival UW. The Cougars had to put up 18 unanswered points in the fourth quarter just to tie the game to get to overtime. Then, the Huskies would-be touchdown pass was intercepted and run alllll the way back to the other 5 yd. line before the Cougar's DLineman got caught. WSU held UW to 269 yards of total offense and won in spite of giving up 4 turnovers.

Next: They get to keep their head coach...probably.

#16 UCLA Bruins (9-3, 6-3 Pac-12)

Lost vs. #8 Stanford 17-35

When you're falling behind to Stanford, and you've just let them score a touchdown, you really shouldn't fumble the kickoff and let them scoop it up for another touchdown. It's advice we can all use, really.

Next: The Pac-12 Championship against... Stanford! That's right, a riveting week-after re-match of teams you just fell asleep trying to watch!

Bowl: Phil Steele thinks they're headed to the Holiday Bowl vs. Texas Tech. That also means he thinks they're going to lose the Pac-12 Championship. He's probably right!

Arizona State Sun Devils (7-5, 5-4 Pac-12)

Won @ #24 Arizona 41-34

The Sun Devils took three INT's and a QB fumble and ultimately converted them all into points. The offenses traded quarters rolling up points, and ASU used a failed on-sides kick for the final score.

Next: Probably the Fight Hunger Bowl vs. Navy.

Southern Cal Trojans (7-5, 5-4 Pac-12)

Lost vs. #1 Notre Dame 13-22

You probably watched this game, and so you saw in the last 3:00 of the game when USC had 8 plays inside the 10 result in 0 points. The Trojans were shut down in the middle, and were held to 19 rushing yards inside the tackles.

Next: The Sun Bowl vs. NC State

#4 Oregon Ducks (11-1, 8-1 Pac-12)

Won @ #15 Oregon St. 48-24

570 yards of offense, with 430 of them rushing yards. Kenjon Barnjer almost had 200 rushing yards while DeAnthony Thomas had 122, and both averaged over 7 yards per carry. The only thing that wasn't obscene was their uniform.

Next: Pretty much guaranteed in the Fiesta Bowl against Kansas State (I think I just threw up a little typing that)

#9 Stanford Cardinal (10-2, 8-1 Pac-12)

Won @ #17 UCLA 35-17

After matching touchdowns in the first quarter, Stanford ran away with the game in the second and third quarters, out-scoring the Bruins 28-10. Then for the entire 4th quarter, both teams decided they were done.

Next: Pac-12 Championship at home versus UCLA. Yay Rematch!

Bowl: Rose Bowl against Nebraska. (I definitely just threw typing that)

Arizona Wildcats (7-5, 4-5 Pac-12)

Lost

Wearing their "All-Red Ketchup Bottle" uniform and ranked #24, UA's Matt Scott threw 3 interceptions, 3 touchdowns, and 3 clumps of 75 yards of passing offense, but it wasn't enough for him to beat ASU for a third time.

Next: New Mexico Bowl vs. Nevada

Washington Huskies (7-5, 5-4 Pac-12)

Lost @ Washington State 28-31 OT

The Huskies had more penalties (18) than first downs (17) for more yards (129) than their rushing total (75). Add a turnover during regulation for good measure. All that considered, it's easy to see how one play in overtime could nearly go as wrong as it possibly could have.

Next: The Phil sez: 'Las Vegas Bowl vs. Boise St.'

Utah Utes (5-7, 3-6 Pac-12)

Nope.

Next: they go home. To Utah. Buh-bye.

California Golden Bears (3-9, 2-7 Pac-12)

Lost @ #16 Oregon St 14-62 on Nov. 17

Cal didn't actually play over Thanksgiving, which will hopefully be corrected in future Pac-12 schedules. I mean, c'mon. Even the B1G is playing on Thanksgiving now. Instead, the Bears fired their head coach Jeff Tedford. You know, the guy responsible for them being a top-10 team 8 years ago.

Next: They should hire Steve Marshall back.

#17 Oregon State Beavers (8-3, 6-3 Pac-12)

Lost vs. #4 Oregon 24-48

The Beavers weren't doing too badly until they made the same mistake we did: all of them let Oregon score and then fumble the kickoff to let Oregon score again. They just waited to do it until the 3rd quarter instead of before the first offensive play. Mannion is back for OSU, and contributed with 4 INT's.

Next they play a make-up game against 1-7 Nicholls St... Watch Out!

Bowl: Phil Steele predicts the Alamo Bowl against Okie State, which is perfect. (Read as Monster-Truck-Rally-Announcer) SUNDAY SUNDAY SUNDAY...OSU VS. OSU IN THE ALAMODOOOOME!! WEAR ORANGE AND BLACK FOR TWO FOR TEN HOTDOGS!! KIDS GET IN FREE WITH PURCHASE OF X-TRA LARGE FAJITA PLATTERS!!

Um...Go Basketball?
