Jim McElwain Set To Be Named Head Coach At Colorado State

The rumors now look much more like confirmation that the Colorado State Rams are all but set to name Alabama offensive coordinator as their next head coach at a scheduled press conference tomorrow at noon. It seems that new Colorado State Athletic Director Jack Graham has wasted no time in making his first big decision since taking on the role.

McElwain has interviewed for the Fresno State job, and was also a candidate at Memphis, but took his name out of the running when things got serious with the Rams. His resume includes 12 years at the FCS level, two years as Louisville's wide receivers coach, two years as the assistant head coach at Michigan State, one year as a quarterback coach for the Oakland Raiders, a year as Fresno State's offensive coordinator and the past four years as Alabama's offensive coordinator.

The hire certainly brings credibility for Colorado State, and the hire will most likely be viewed as a home run. His offenses were never juggernauts at Alabama, but they weren't supposed to be. It will be very interesting to follow the rest of the 2012 CSU recruiting class, especially if he leaves Alabama before the championship game.

What does everyone think?
